Games techniques: martingales, sure bets…
Martingales
A martingale is a strategy where the player adapt his stake in order to compensate for losses. Martingales are used with games based on probabilities, and especially on games where the player has as many good chance to win as to lose (like heads or tails). That is the reason why they are often applied at the roulette on external bets (even/odd, red/black...). The most well known martingale is Hawk's method. The aim of this martingale is to win as many tokens as winning draws. With this martingale the player bets one token after a winning draw and doubles his stake else. Lots of martingale inherit from this principle like the big martingale and the Piquemouche.
The Dutch martingale, the american martingale, la Whittacker's method, Alembert's pyramid, Wells martingale and the belgian martingale are based on a more progressive losses compensation. At the opposit Paroli and the anti-d'Alembert rest on series (if you win, you have a good chance to win again ; if you lose, you have a good chance to lose again) and the player increases his stake when he wins.
Martingales are often used at the roulette, but they can be transposed easily at betting.
Poker tips
Poker rules are really simple. But they are not enough to become a good poker player. You will have to learn how to turn to good account from all informations at your disposal. More difficult is the game and more important will be your reading of the game. Here are some tips quite obvious but enough used by newbies.
- At Hold'em poker games (Texas or Omaha), if three cards are suited on the table then there is a good chance that some may have a flush.
- At Omaha Poker, only 2 cards from your 4 ones can be used to form your hand. So it's not a good thing at all to have three of a kind among your 4 cards. It will decrease your chance to have a full for example. In the same way havving 3 suited cards will give you less chance to have a flush than if you have only 2 suited cards (the third one which is in your hand will not be able to appear on the desk...).
- An average game with 10 players can become a good one where there are only 2 or 3 players left.
- If every one passed there is no use to show your hand. The only consequence will be the information that other players will learn on your way of playing.

How to reduce stakes
Lotteries are fine games because they allow players to win lots of money with just one stake. But chances to win are really really tiny ! It is possible to win more often without having to bet a lot of money. But it will not increase your chance to win the jackpot. With this trick you have to choose intelligently the number you will play. The system consist in choosing numbers from a grid to another so that you will not have twice the same 2-numbers or 3-numbers combination. Doing that you will cover the maximum number of combinations. So you will have a better chance to have a winning combination rather than if you have played several times a same combination (and so a smaller number of combinations). It is not so useful because on average your winnings will be quite the same : if you play several times the same combinations in your grid, you will have less chance to win, but when this combination will be drawn, you will win more. This strategy applied to lottery but also to other games based on combinations (horse races...).
Sure bets
Sure bets are used with betting games based on odds. You have to bet on the different events of a same contest. For exemple for basket-ball game between Lakers and Bulls, you bet on the Lakers with a first bookmaker who propose a big odd A for them and you bet on the Bulls with a second onewho will have a nicer odd B for them. Of course it is not so easy. It is not enough to find the highest odd on any team. These odds have to verify a specifical condition. If you bet $X on the Lakers and $Y on the Bulls, you will have paid $(X+Y). If Lakers win, your earnings will be $A*X. If Bulls win, you will earn $B*Y. You will really win if both A*X > X+Y and B*Y > X+Y. If it is the case you are sure that will win money whatever the winners are. Such odds are of course rare. The first reason is that bookmakers calculate their odds on the same datas. So from a bookmaker to another odds are usually quite equal. The second reason is that if you try to be sure to make money with a bet, it is the same for the bookmaker ! And the condition which will make sure that he will wi money whatever the result is, is the exact opposit of the condition of the sure bet. Specifical web sites list sure bets.
